Ready to Run [a 5k]

This morning, I participated in my second 5K race. I didn't think I did too bad, but I know that I had a better time at my last race. I don't tend to think of myself as a super competitive person, but I know it's in my genes, because several of my siblings are SUPER competitive. I ran this 5K with my sister, who is one of the competitive ones. She was pretty nervous, as this was her first 5K, but she really wanted to win...and she DID! :) I'm super proud of her, and I'll settle for my participation ribbon finish. However, while I was being passed by small children and old people, I definitely felt some twinges of competitiveness coursing through my veins. When I say that I was being passed, I'm not kidding. Quite a few people passed me, especially when I had to take walking breaks. I was a little disappoiunted that I was so tired, as I felt like I had worked out and prepared more for this race than my first one. But, I can take pride in the fact that I finishe

Tornadoes and Dancing Shoes

Saturday, we had quite the bout of weather out here. Rain and hail, some wind (not unusual), and several tornadoes, close enough for the sirens to go off in town. I was getting ready to go to a benefit event at our local country club, but I wasn't in any hurry to head out the door once we were sitting in a tornado warning. While I was waiting it out, I wrote a couple Mothers' Day cards, wrapped a few presents, and braided my hair. After I was assured by my not-very-worried family members that we were out of any danger, I headed to the country club to spend a few hours listening to live, loud country music, and dancing the night away. The lead singer is notorious for teasing audience members, and I was lucky enough to the be the chosen one. Needless to say, people know you're there when the band leader refers to you from the stage all evening. :) I had a great time, dancing with my girlfriends, and even had a swing dance with one of the guitar players. This morning, ever

Adventures at the Vet

Our city requires that residents within the city limits register their dogs. Tonight, our vet clinic hosted a registration and vaccination night, and I [foolishly] offered to take our dog, Luke, to get his shots updated and his 2015 tags. Luke is a fairly well-behaved dog, and does listen most of the time, but tonight's adventure was a bit exasperating. The instant I grabbed the leash, he was bouncing off the walls with excitement. He knows what the leash means. We made our way to the car, stopping several times to untangle the leash from both our legs. Once safely loaded, Luke had to decide which seat to sit in, which required jumping over the seats a number of times, until he picked the middle seat of our suburban. Until I looked back to make sure he was settled down, I didn't notice the two sheets of packing Styrofoam laying on the middle seat. Even after I saw them, I wasn't too concerned. I rolled down the window for Luke, and off we went to the vet. When we arrive

Beginning Again

Once upon a time, I was a regular blogger. Once upon a time, I did it for college credit. Then I stopped. Now I'm making a quiet re-entry into the blogging world, because I truly enjoy writing about life and all of its imperfections. It really doesn't matter if anyone reads what I put out there, because this is for my enjoyment. Life is a journey, a string of learning moments and beautiful memories, a bunch of ugly days and happy days all mixed together, and I'm ready to document those things again. If you're reading this, thank you for stopping by, and I hope you will enjoy my imperfect life story as much as I do. Love always.  -mc
